Staff Opportunities

Applications for the 2017 season are now open!

We select qualified men and women to be counselors who demonstrate a deep sense of commitment and moral character, and who can be strong, positive influences in the lives of our campers.  Children are impressionable, and it is imperative that we employ staff members who can make a positive impression on our campers through personal example and leadership in the cabin, in the activities and throughout camp. The majority of campers who attend our camp come from the Rochester and Corning and areas, though, on average, we have campers attending from 25 different states and 5 foreign countries.  The camps are generally divided evenly between boys and girls.

What does a Counselor do?

A counselor at Camp Cory serves as a mentor to the overnight and day campers. They are responsible for camper safety and fun in cabins as well as activity areas. Counselors live in cabins with kids from ages 7 to 16 when in overnight camp, and care for campers in our day camp program from ages 5 to 13. Counselors will rotate through the different villages and spend at least two weeks in day camp. Counselors are also required to work two holdover weekends during the summer.

Senior Counselors and Assistant Senior Counselors

An Assistant Senior Counselor is a staff member who is 17 and had previously gone through YMCA child care training or a YMCA Camp Counselor in Training Program. Counselors in these positions are required to work fewer weeks of the summer in addition to staff training week. A Senior Counselor is a staff member who is 18 years of age or older with previous experience in child care. These Counselors are required to work at least 7 weeks of summer, 8 preferred, in addition to staff training week.
