Traditional Camp

Overview

Campers enjoy a unique living experience in our clean, rustic cabins. Each day is a lesson in responsibility and personal growth. Counselors guide the campers in cabin clean-up, observance of the daily schedule, and decision-making in daily activities. Evenings are spent with the cabin or village in a variety of exciting games, campfires, or all-camp events. Each day ends with campers back in the cabins with a Counselor-led devotion.

Each cabin is staffed with two Counselors who live in the cabin with their campers. It is the primary responsibility of these counselors to ensure the well-being of your child. A number of age related cabins form a village, led by an experienced Village Head. Counselors and Village Heads work with your camper, providing encouragement while helping them grow socially, emotionally, and physically each day.

Requirements

Campers in Traditional Camp live in Craig, Wells, or Walmsley Village based on their age, from age 7-15. Campers will have the opportunity to get to know their Counselors, Village Heads, and all the Activity Chiefs on Sunday following check-in and their Swim Party.

Camper Placement

Campers are placed in cabins with other children, generally within one year of age/grade of each other. Villages are based on age ranges and may fluctuate week to week depending on the age makeup of that session’s campers. While we encourage families to allow their children to make new friends at camp, we will honor one mutual cabinmate request.

Campers are also placed in daily Electives. Prior to arrival at camp, they’ll rate their top 9 Elective choices and the Overnight Camp Coordinator will create a schedule unique to them. They’ll choose 3 land activities, 3 water activities, and 3 creative activities. Senior Village campers will receive 4 of their choices. Campers in Craig Village are required to take a swim lesson as one of their electives so they will receive 3.

Health

Camp Cory takes very seriously the responsibility of providing all campers a healthy camping experience. We maintain a well-equipped Infirmary with qualified medical personnel on-site 24 hours a day. All medications are checked in at the Health Center and distributed as indicated on medical forms. In addition, our Counselors hold current First Aid and CPR certifications and are thoroughly trained to properly handle emergency situations.
